Launching On Patreon!

2018 was always going to be a big year for this story, and to make things go with a boom, we’re launching a Patreon campaign in a bid to help us finish things in the most appropriate way.

We will be publishing three more books, and hosting several live events around the UK to open the narrative up to participants who have supported us since launch in 2011. Watch this space…

British Library
Last week, Clockwork Watch creator, Yomi, joined Bryan Talbot, Kate Ashwin, Daniel Merlin Goodbrey, and John Freeman at the British Library to chat about digital comics.

It was a great session, and the hope is that there will be more opportunities like this in the future. Much gratitude to the British Library team, and everyone who came to the event.

Evolution at Thought Bubble in Leeds. Table 22, Victoria Hall.

Megan Bradbury, who designed the cover for Clockwork Evolution will be joining writers Corey Brotherson and Yomi Ayeni at the launch of the new book at Thought Bubble Convention in Leeds this weekend. Evolution is the 7th graphic novel in our Steampunk story, and is based on live events that we have hosted over the past 6 years. Want to know more? We’ll be at table 22, in Victoria Hall. Come say hello!

It’s That Time Again…

FullSizeRender

For the past four years, Corey and I have braved the Wild Wild West to exhibit / launch our new titles at the phenomenon called San Diego Comic Con, probably the world’s biggest comic art convention, which is rumoured to have 180 thousand attendees every day. The experience is daunting, as we are probably the only black British independent creators in the Small Press section of the event.

Preparing for the adventure usually starts around November, when we realise it’s almost too late to get the next book ready for the Con which takes place in July. Corey (editor/adapting writer) – a very busy man, with several other writing projects on-the-go, has consistently nursed every book through to publication. Not much would happen without his support, and ingenuity, he is the backbone of Clockwork Watch.

Part of the process involves making sure our artists  (Jennie Gyllblad and most recently Ed Jiménez) has the time to finish the pages, checking-in with our letterer, Mike Stock, to see if he can fit us in, (he usually has a holiday scheduled around Comic Con time), and not forgetting our esteemed Fabio – Creative Director of FEST in Portugal, who works tirelessly to design a new title for every book.

So, here we are again – flight and accommodation booked (at great expense), bags packed, and we’re almost ready for the ‘big off’,

Ahhh, and the new book “Evolution” is currently being printed in Memphis. It is way cheaper than shipping the books from the UK. Can you imagine the disaster IF they were seized, delayed, or returned to the UK by US customs? Perish the thought…

You can find us at  P-09 in the Small Press section, where we will have the new book, the Clockwork Watch: Omnibus, Tick Tock IPA: Omnibus, posters, and warm smiles.

For SCIENCE!

“Here’s How It Started” by Corey

Seems like a “When harry Met Sally” situation, but having editor Corey Brotherson at the helm of Clockwork Watch has changed lives. Here is his annual round up of how we started the project.

When Three Become One, It’s Alchemy.

As the first part of our story concludes, we’ve put together a book that includes every step taken over the past 6-years.

Behold the Clockwork Watch Omnibus, a combination of The Arrival, Breakaway, and Countenance, all part of our interactive and participatory storytelling, with a decent dose of and fantastical fun!

Countenance Is Coming. Best Be Prepared. #WIP

Clockwork Watch: Countenance: Dark, deep, and dangerously insane.

The final chapter of this story has been waiting for 5 years, and it’s about to be unleashed. We are hosting a special preview at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con.

Are We There Yet? No Saccadius, Not Quite.

saccadius

Well, almost, in fact we are at the penultimate stage of the adventure. It should really be the end, but as things have developed over the past 5-years, we’ve adapted to the fluid nature of our interactive / participatory narrative, which in other words means – you – the audience – have been in the driving seat for most of the ride, and you’ve changed the original story… a dream come true.

Our team created an engaging story that the audience were at liberty to tweak, change, and co-create, but as time progressed I noticed we had overlooked one of the special elements that bridged the divide between the graphic novels and the immersive events –  Saccadius – a character created on-the-fly by my friend – Paul Giffney.

For the past five years, Saccadius’ character has only appeared at our live events, and in the online world, but he has yet to appear in any of the books.

In 2010, when I announced that I was developing a Transmedia concept called Clockwork Watch, Paul contacted me and introduced me to his alter ego. From the outset I knew Saccadius was going to be a key player at our live events, but hadn’t quite worked out how to introduce him into the bigger story.

When we launched at Tomorrow’s World… Today! (2012), Saccadius was on stage to introduce the first Clockwork prototype to our audience. Later that same year, he ended up barricaded in a tent by protesters and trade unionists at the Advancement of Sciences Roadshow (Latitude 2012), he uncovered the hidden science laboratory at the Make Believe Festival (2013), he conducted the tours at the Queens Steampunk Soiree  (2014), and he explored the depths of Saccadius’  multiple-personality disorder at The Asylum (2015).

So, last year I decided to dedicate the final chapter of this story to Saccadius, the amazing character Paul created and grew in the world of Clockwork Watch.

The book is called The Alchemists’ Story, and the first few pages will be included in Countenance, which is out this summer. And before you yell… Yes, I know. When we started out, I promised three books, that grew to six, and now we have the seven.

Here’s to you Paul for  all the joy, fun, and laughter you’ve brought into my world since we first met in 2009. Paul got married over the weekend, and the whole team wish you and Phil the very best the world has to offer.

And with that, no more talk about this special treat until 2017.

Y

P.S. I hear you ask, “wasn’t there meant to be a film?” That dream is still alive, in fact someone has advised me to adapt the film script to a series of graphic novels. Only time will tell.
